I’m so glad that you found your way here. I’m Laura Wright, vegan cookbook author and creator of this blog. I’m based in the Niagara region of southern Ontario, Canada.
Cooking, developing, and testing delicious vegan recipes is my what I love to do. I always turn to seasonal inspiration for recipes. Most of my readers and followers do not strictly identify as plant-based or vegan! My goal is to help anyone at any level eat more plants. I’ve been doing this for 10+ years!
On this blog you’ll find a variety of cooking inspiration. I like to focus on vegan dinner recipes, I also have lots of great soups and stews, quick and easy OPTIONS, and a few sweet treats. I love to share bits of feel-good lifestyle inspiration too in my weekend roundup.
Why vegan? I had been an off-and-on again vegetarian throughout my teens twenties. I grew up with my family’s local produce market as the background. Eating seasonally was just the way we did things.
I remember having Thanksgiving dinner at a friend’s house. The person who cooked the meal had just come back from a trip where they had witnessed a mother moose with her young in the wild. The experience had moved them to try giving up meat, and the holiday dinner reflected that. There were tons of vibrant vegetables, whole grains, and legumes to choose from.
I looked at my plate and saw 100% plant-based goodness.
I knew that I could eat and live this way forever. It truly felt like something was being communicated to me in that moment, and it changed my life! As I continued, my energy was up and other benefits were becoming more obvious. I graduated from a nutritional culinary program, worked in restaurants, and volunteered at a local community food education centre before starting this blog as a hobby. Now, with an annual readership of over 2.5 million, I develop vegan recipes full time.
My vegan recipes have been featured in saveur, the washington post, cap beauty, the guardian, my domaine, and the huffington post
The First Mess Cookbook was published in 2017. It was awarded silver by the Taste Canada Awards in the category of health and special diets cookbooks.
The book was also featured in: The Washington Post, GOOP, The Kitchn, Bon Appetit, and Food Network.
